I started to an entry today and as got about a paragraph into it, I realized that the topic sounded familiar.  Given this, I dug into the archives and found exactly what I wanted to say. It is amazing how things go full circle.  Be blessed folks.

Good afternoon gang!

I pray that everyone is have a great hump day so far.  You know in the year 2006 we find ourselves always and forever on the go.  We are running to this meeting and running to that meeting.  We are working 14 and 15 hours a day, trying to have family time, trying to say hello to friends, participating in this organization and that organization.  When you think about it, where does God get his time in the day or week for that matter?  With so much going on, God and his Word tends to get pushed out of our daily lives.

Mark 6:31-32 says, "(31) And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. (32) And they departed into a desert place by ship privately."

In this chapter of Mark, we find that John the Baptist has just been beheaded and his disciples found out and retrieved his body to be placed in a tomb.  After they had done this task they went to Jesus and He told them to go rest as you see from the verses above.  Although, Jesus was a very busy man, he still found time to slow down and smell the roses; slow down to pray.  See the next verse.

Mark 1:25 says, "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed."

Jesus always managed to slow down and to keep his eye on God.   In our lives we are typically the equivalent of driving down the road in a Ferrari doing 100mph.  When you look to the side everything is a blur and all you know is that you have a destination.  However, going this fast in life, you miss what God has to say to you.  He can catch you but you are always going to fast to notice him trying to talk to you.  But when you are driving your drop top Volkswagen Beetle, you see everything.  God can say hey, "look over there".  Then He can also say, turn here I want to show you something.  When God wants to show you something you probably will want to see it.  But if you are at 100mph in your Ferrari any slight distraction will cause you to wreck.

That's what happens in our lives.  God is out of the midst and minor distraction causes mental, physical, & spiritual crashes for us.  Slowing down, it's alright.  When you do, God will reveal to you those questions you ask.  He will show you your needs versus your wants.  He will show you your faults and how to correct them.  You just have to be willing to drive slow down enough to smell the roses.

A Big Mistake

God, are you serious?  You must be mistaken!  What just happened to me should not have happened?  What just happened to my friend should not have happened?  My career was suppose to go different than what it did!  God you must have me confused with someone else!

Sounds familiar?  Have you ever asked or made one of the statements above?  If you have, you might want to keep something in mind.  God does not make a mistake.  Remember that He is omniscient.  He knows everything that is happening to you and around you.   Luke 12:7 says, "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."  If He knows this very detail about you, why would we think decisions He has made were not purposefully made?

The biggest mistake that we can make is believing that He made a mistake.  We can get into a lot of trouble when we start to question God because if left unresolved, you can start to doubt.  If you doubt then you open a door for the enemy into your life and that's a downhill slope none of us wish to climb up.

Lost In Denominations

Catholicism.  Baptist. Methodist. Lutheran.  All of these are different "branches" of Christianity and all of them have their own set of governing rules which make them who they claim to be. According to Wikipedia's List of Christian denominations, "there are reported to be approximately 38,000 Christian denominations".  I mean, WOW!  Really, WOW!   I bring this up because I saw a bill board this morning for a Methodist church that advertised coming to experience Methodism in a different way.  

Methodism?  I understand that Methodism is the practice of being a Methodist, however, what happened to being just a Christian?  At the heart of the matter, Jesus should be brightly shining but sometimes that may not be the case.  We can get lost in ourselves and get caught up in positions and titles.  We can become frustrated with other people in the church because we think they are not "doing church" the right way. The problem with this is that we start to cut each other off from other denominations and then we justify it by saying this is the why we do what we do and believe what we believe.  The more you start to believe and focus on what you do rather than Jesus, you add further division into the umbrella of Christianity (Actually, we should say that we follow Jesus, because not all those who call themselves Christians follow the tenants of Jesus.  I got that from my wife.  Thanks hun!)   

In Matthew 12:22-26;30, it says:

(22) Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. (23) All the people were astonished and said, Could this be the Son of David? (24) But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons. (25) Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. (26) If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? (30) Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

In these verses, we see that Jesus has healed a man who was possessed, but the Pharisees simply say this can only be the results of Beelzebul.  Jesus then explains that if this was the case, then Satan would be going against himself and his mission to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10).  In order for a team to accomplish its goal, all its members have to be on the same page, regardless of its purpose.  When a team's goal is to head North and different members of the team decide they wish to go in all other directions but North, it is impossible for that team to reach its goal.  It just cannot happen.

Simply, we cannot become lost in all the denominations out there.  We have to keep Jesus our focus and stop worrying about the intricacies of how you do church.  Believe and keep your eyes "[t]o him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy" and all the other distractions will fall by the wasteside (see Jude 1:24).

You Cannot Do It All By Yourself

Happy Year Folks!

I hope that you all had a Merry Christmas as well!  It feels good to be able to jump back into writing, so without delay, I want to go to Exodus 18:13-22.  It is a little lengthy, but work with me.  There, it says:

(13) The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. (14) When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, "What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?" (15) Moses answered him, "Because the people come to me to seek God's will. (16) Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God's decrees and instructions." (17) Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. (18) You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. (19) Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him. (20) Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. (21) But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. (22) Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.

You know what?  I probably needed to read and meditate on this verse all while growing up and probably to this day.  How many of us try to do things all by ourselves?  After all, as American's we pride ourselves on getting to the point where we are independent and can do it all alone.  Independence is like a mark that says, "I did it and I can do it all by myself!".  This is good and there is nothing wrong with independence, until it gets in the way of getting help when you need it.

It is hard to go back to ask people for help when you've portrayed the role that "you got it".  Sometimes, it can even be a hard pill to swallow, but if you will just step outside yourself to see yourself, you'd realize that you cannot do everything alone.  As in verse 18, "...you will only wear yourselves out."  If you are use to going at it alone that is fine, but keep in mind that you have to be able to recognize when you need help to "make your load lighter".

If someone offers help, it is probably because they see something that you do not see.  Re-evaluate your situation and see where you may need help.  After all, the help that comes may be the bridge you need to get over your current road block.

Good morning folks and Happy Hump Day!

I hope everyone in the Southeast survived the storms and rain last night. We definitely needed the rain here in NC because Falls Lake now looks like a big sand box. That's ok though because we know that God will provide what we need when we need it as long as we are good stewards of what he gives us. This makes a good place to start today's word for the day. Gods investment in us.

This morning I was listening to the Yolanda Adams morning show and Kirk Franklin was a guest (they are on their Caribbean Cruise). They talked about a plethora of things and one of which was God's return on His investment. Well what does that mean though. First let's get some definitions out in the open.

R.O.I. (Return on Investment) - A performance measure used to evaluate the efficiency of an investment or to compare the efficiency of a number of different investments. To calculate ROI, the benefit (return) of an investment is divided by the cost of the investment; the result is expressed as a percentage or a ratio.1

ROI = (Gain from investment – Cost of Investment)/Cost of Investment

For investors and analysts, this formula is very good at letting them know when they should risk an investment. After doing the math, if the return isn't profitable for them, they do not make the investment. Now let's look at God.

We have a known in the ROI formula which is the Cost of the Investment. The Lord has done a lot of things for us. For starters, He created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). Not only did he create the heavens and the earth, He went on to create man in the likeness of Him (Genesis 1:27). This alone is a huge investment, but then Adam and Eve decided to disobey God and eat from the very tree in the Garden of Eden that He said not to eat from. Like children God, punished them -- kicked them out the Garden (where they had a "fa sho" hedge placed around them) creating the first sin and the separation of God.

You know how the story goes, but that's not the end. Not only did Adam and Eve sin against God, they created a domino effect that would cause every human being to be born into sin. Hence, there needed to be an investment made on our behalf. In order for us to regain direct access to God, He had to send his only begotten Son to come to die for our sins that we may have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Let's compare this to the modern world. I know this is a far stretch but work with me. When the US economy seems to be headed for a recession (or a fall), the government had to stimulate the economy by making an investment in it. The hopes are that the people will feel confident to spend while the company feel confident to supply. Gods investment, by having Jesus to die for our sins was the ultimate investment. Now that we have access to Him through Jesus Christ, we should feel confident in spending in the Kingdom of God. The bad news for us is that it is a return that we as a people can never make Him fully recover while we are in the flesh. The good news is that we can strive (in the flesh) to make His investment justifiable, so that on Judgment day all the Saints can have God fully recover from His investment.

So, now that we know the cost God endured for investing in us how can we have God obtain a "Gain from investment"? Well glad you asked. Remember, some time before that we did a WFTD about being a Pew Warmer (see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wftd/message/601)? Well, being a pew warmer is how God does not recover from his investment. Every time someone sits and does nothing, there is a lost. In this case, lost of a soul. (Note: Just because you are saved, that does not guarantee you go to heaven!) God placed a purpose in your life. Whether it is to help people, be in business for your self, be the best custodian, be the best whatever it is God has given you the talent to be. Ephesians 4:11-13 says,

"(11) It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, (12) to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (13) until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."

God has placed in us something to do for the kingdom. If you seek God for what the purpose He's placed in your life and to follow through with it, He will see an increase towards the gain of His investment. Aren't you glad that God loved us enough to take a risk? If he had been like someone on Wall Street, He would have looked at us and said, "this is a bad R.O.I. For me". However, He loved us enough to "take a hit" upfront to have us come back to Him in the end.

Success In the Most Unlikely Places

In what may seem like a strange thing, sometimes we can find success in the most unlikely places and ways.  There are so many businesses that have flourished that was never suppose to work.  There are people in positions who did not appear to be qualified, but are successful at what they are doing.  You may be doing something right now in an area where you had no intentions on being, but look at you.  You are successful and doing it because you took the leap of faith.

Maybe I speak for myself, but when starting a journey, it is difficult to comprehend doing something that appear it would fail.  I mean really, if everything adds up, why do it, right?  Well, it's not quite that simple. I want us to visit the Gospel of Matthew 14:22-33. You may be familiar with it, but it is when Jesus walked on water.

(22) Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. (23) After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, (24) and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.  (25) Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. (26) When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.  (27) But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." (28) "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." (29) "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. (30) But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"  (31) Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" (32) And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. (33) Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

You may have heard before, but I am not going to focus so much on the fact that Peter took his eye off of Jesus, but the fact that he did something that just was not suppose to work.  First of all, Peter asked to come to Jesus on the water.  (You know, we simply do not have some things because we are just scared to ask God [see James 4:2].  We have to stop being afraid to ask Him for the desires of our heart.  What's the worst that could happen? He would just tell you no, which means He has other plans for you!).  OK, let's think about this for a minute.  Jesus was suppose to be able to walk on water, because that's what He does.  He's God and it is to be expected He could do these types of things.  Peter on the other hand was just a plain old guy.  How could he possible walk on water?  If any of you know anything about water, you definitely cannot walk on it.  If anything, you can sink and drown. So, how is it possible that Peter was able to do something that just physically and mentally does not add up?  SURVEY SAYS:  Peter believed Jesus when He said to come.  His faith in Jesus to give him the ability to do the impossible was made possible.  The rest of the story is HIStory.

Even though the walk was short lived, it was still a success.  Peter did something that just did not make sense.  How many of you would have jumped out the boat?  Most of us probably would have stayed in the boat even though it was being tossed about the sea.  Walking on water is an unlikely place to find success, but Peter did it.  Where is the unlikely place in your life that you have been avoiding?  Have you asked Jesus to do what you think is impossible and make it possible for you?  What's the worst that could happen?  Right?

Between the Hedges (Replay)

Good afternoon family.

I pray that all are doing well this fine Tuesday in February. Today, I want to take a minute or two to talk about the hedges that God has placed around out lives (and no Deidra we are not talking about UGA Football :-) ). What I'm talking about is God's protection that he places around His own. let's go to some scripture please.

Job 1:10 "Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land." 

For those who don't quite remember the story, this is the passage where the devil is asking God hasn't he placed a hedge of protection around Job? Then the devil go on to suggest that the very moment God touches all that God has bless Job, he will surely turn on him. So, you can read the rest of the story in its entirety, but lets talk about that hedge for a moment. What is a hedge?

One definition says that a hedge is a line of closely spaced shrubs and bushes, planted and trained in such a way as to form a barrier or to mark the boundary of an area. Look at that. A boundary. You know a territory. You are God's territory and He protects what is His. If you ever notice in life wherever you go, God seems to always have your back? He keeps you from the very mistake that could take you out or end your life or send you down a spiraling abyss of mess for the rest of your life. Not only that, the hedge just ensures that what's inside stays inside and what's outside, stays outside.

I can testify that I just started a new job last week (PRAISE GOD!) and I haven't seen anything that bothered me or disturbed my spirit, but I know that I've met two people already who Loves the Lord. God can place people in your live as well to be your hedge (See Proverbs 27:17). So no matter where you go, a hedge follows you. You just stay in the hedge and everything will be alright.

He Deals With Each of us Differently (Replay)

Good afternoon fam,

I hope that everyone is doing well this nice Tuesday. I want to apologize for my recent leave of absence from the list, but I'm back in the saddle so lets get things rolling. Also, I want to wish my boy Ryan (who is the brain-child of WFTD) a Happy Birthday today. Keep on living your life in a Godly manner broham and do not let anything separate you from that. Alright, so now to some word.

Scripture please: 

Hebrews 12:6-8 "(6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." 

Isn't it amazing that as of 2005, "2.14 billion people made up the world's Christian population" (for more information click here)?! What's even more amazing is that God knows how to handle all of us, even though we are all unique. I mean there are some identical siblings out there, but we are still unique. As verse 7 above states, God deals with us as we are sons (or children) and if there are any parents on the list, we know not all children behave the same. Some you can speak to one time and that's all it takes for them to get the message. Some you have to nearly lose your mind, before they get the idea that you aren't playing with them and they should obey. This is the same thing that God has to do to us Christians.

Johnny, may be the most obedient person to God you know so when God chastises him, He gets the message immediately. However, Billy might here God's message but chose to go right instead of going left like he was suppose too. Again it takes a different tactic to get the message across that Billy should have turned left! You may be asking what does all this mean and why should I care? Well, here you go. You cannot look at other people's situations and wonder how God made it look so simple for them. You may be experienceing something in your life that you know other people have gone through, but for some reason your experience does not seem to be the same. No matter how much advice you receive your situation seems to be unique. Well, we have to first look at the individuals involved and understand what God is trying to show and/or do to them. The testimony that you will have at the end of your journey cannot possibly be the same as someone else because your experience is unique between you and the Lord.

Here's another example. I may have mentioned before that when my wife wanted to leave her job in July/August 2006, the Lord knew that I looked at my Excel spreadsheets as was like, "uhm no, you can't leave". According to the numbers things didn't add up. However, after crunching some numbers and going on some assumptions, I was like ok we can do this. So, what happens, God threw in a monkey wrench. Guess what, we were pregnant with our second child (SURPISE!) AND some monies that I had counted on wasn't coming. To make a long story short, the Lord had to deal with me differently to get us moving into the direction He would have us go. In the end we were just fine.

Keep your eyes on the Lord and follow his Word closely. He may have been getting you to take some steps (that you thought were the final answers you were asking for) to prepare you for a larger move that He has for you.

Clean Surface Before Applying (Replay)

Happy Hump Day family,

I hope all is well with everyone this morning. Today is another great day in the Lord and I thank God for waking me up this morning to be able to see another day. It is truly a blessing because the Lord has really been working on me. The Lord and I have been in some serious dialog lately, so He has His hands on me, reshaping and remolding me. If I sound a little un-Antoineish sometimes, it's because I'm in God's garage getting a tune up (speaking of which, sorry Deidra, I know I have unfinished business) and trying to understand what is happening to me right now.

So with that said, let's go into the WFTD. You know whenever you take something apart to put on a new part, or to simply add some adhesive to something the instructions clearly state: "thoroughly clean surface and dry before applying". A good example of this is for Auto Mechanics. When they take parts off your motor for repair, a lot of the times they have to scrape off old adhesive from the place in order to apply the new adhesive and part. Why do they do this? Well the adhesive and new part will not hold as well if the surface applying it to is dirty. Another example is your rear view mirror. For those of you who have had to replace your review mirror, you know that the instructions say to take a razor blade and scrape off the old glue, clean thoroughly and dry the surface before applying the new adhesive (and ultimately the mirror). If you don't you won't make it out the driveway before the mirror is sitting in your lap.

This is how God has to do us a lot of the times. God has to clean off old adhesive where junk or old parts once hung in order to apply new adhesive and new parts. Sometimes, it may not be a replacement part, it could simply be an addition for you, but still God has to clean the surface before adding to you. If you've ever gotten glue, paint, oil, etc. on your arm or hands, you know that sometimes require some serious scrubbing and washing to get it off. Sometimes depending on how soiled you were, you may have to scrape, and that didn't always feel nice. Some scripture if you will:

2 Corinthians 5:17 "(17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. " 

Old things are suppose to be passed away, but how many of you know that some things, God has to bring you back into his shop for subsequent repair and updates? Just like a car repair or maintenance though, no one ever said it would be a pleasant experience always. Sometimes you are without your car for a few days because of the magnitude of the auto repair. For children in Christ, sometimes its like we don't know what is happening in our lives until God is through with the maintenance/repair work.

Proverbs 3:11, says "My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:". Again, simply put, God has to work on us and not every work will feel pleasant to you, but just know that all that God will and can do is Good. If you experienced this part in your life, then this may be all familiar to you. If you have not, I pray that this word will help you when (NOT IF) you reach a point such as this in your life. God works in many ways that we do not understand, but we must know and accept that whatever it is He does to us, it is for our own good.

If...Then....(Replay)

Good morning family, 

I pray that all is well with everyone. I don't know about where you are, but in Raleigh, the weather has been absolutely awesome. It's mid December and we are sitting at 80 degree weather, while the majority of the country has ice storms. It will not last long, but lets enjoy what God has provided while it lasts instead of missing it when it's gone. 

A lot of the times we tend to fall into a situation of missing something when it's gone. Then we find ourselves saying statements like, “if only I had......then......” With family members, when one passes away, we sometimes regret that we didn't do something and wish we had the chance to do it all over again. We are reactive people in stead of proactive people. To take it a step further, we like to put conditions on why we haven't done/didn't do something or when we will do something. This even trickles over to our relationship with the God. 

There are many times you here people say things like: 

• “If I can just get myself together, then I'll come to church and serve God.”
• “If only I had not done XYZ, then I would come to church and serve God.”
• “If I could just finish this work, then I would do more for the Lord.”
• “If I had money left over after bills, then I would tithe.”

See the problem here? In these examples, serving God is secondary and dependent upon the completion of another task. Well without any more hesitation, lets hop to some scripture: 

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”

Malachi 3:8 “"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?'"In tithes and offerings.” (see Exodus 23:16, where God commands that the people were to bring the 1^st fruits of their labor to him) 

God should not be secondary in our lives but first in our lives. If you place God first, your statements would change from “If..Then” to “God did”. Let's look at how placing God first changes the first statements: 

• “I came to church to serve God, and He put my life back together.”
• “I came to church to serve God, and He forgave my sins.”
• “Now I do more for the Lord and He gives me all the time and ability I need to finish my work.”

God can turn your whole life around if you let, Him, but you have to learn to let go. Let go and let God have His way in your life. Until you learn to do this, your life will always be filled with a bunch of “If's” followed by a number of “thens”. Remember, God did do/is doing/and will do anything in your life.
